From glamorous and elegant to casual and laid back, there is a nightlife experience in Dubai to suit everyone. Nightclubs in Dubai cater for many different cultures, and offer myriad experiences for those who choose to spend their nights out in them. Typically opening after nine o'clock, Dubai nightclubs get busier as the night goes on - particularly during the summer months - and tend to close at around two in the morning. Taxis are available throughout the night, and provide a safe and efficient way of getting back to your hotel at the end of the night.

All the nightclubs in this list are welcoming to overseas visitors, and are licensed to sell alcohol. We have rated them on a scale of one to five, in order to help you choose where to go, and where not to go.

M-Level @ Hilton Creek * * * *

With a great location in one of the most elegant and stylish hotels in the city, M-Level has a reputation as being one of the most popular spots in Dubai to enjoy house and techno music played by some good DJs. This exclusive, yet enjoyable nightclub is also regarded as being a place where Dubai's beautiful people go in order to let their hair down.

Planetarium @ Planet Hollywood * * * *

Perhaps the liveliest place in Dubai to enjoy a night out, the legendary techno nights at Planetarium pack in revellers from all over the region. A night out at this popular club is likely to leave you with a real smile on your face, particularly if you prefer your music unencumbered by words. Planet Hollywood is located within Wafi City complex in the centre of Dubai.

Jimmy Dix @ Movenpick * * * *

Jimmy Dix is probably the most "British" nightclub in Dubai, and is always heavily populated with ex-pats, making for a great atmosphere. The club almost always offers a live rock band and a DJ, but sadly, the beautiful people of Dubai are rarely present to enjoy it. If you fancy a night out at Jimmy Dix, then head to the Movenpick Hotel, which is located in Bur Dubai close to the American Hospital.

Rock Bottom @ Regent Palace Hotel * * * *

Rock Bottom is also a popular choice for ex-pats, and gets pretty crowded at the weekend. Aside from the general fun and music on offer, Rock Bottom offers fine late night kebabs - the chicken Shwarmas are highly recommended as a vitamin supplement for drinkers. Rock Bottom is right in the centre of Bur Dubai, close to the Bur Juman Shopping centre.

Zinc @ Crowne Plaza * * * *

Zinc is one of the most popular nightspots in Dubai because it is the venue of choice for Emirates Airline's stewardesses on their nights off. The club, based in the Crowne Plaza usually offers a live band, and a DJ, and serves snacks to go with your drinks. The VIP area is popular with local royals and their hangers on, and is a great place to mingle with the serious wealth. Zinc is a great place to go after spending time in the Trader Vic's bar at Crowne Plaza - right in the city centre.

The Mix @ Grand Hyatt * * * *

The Mix offers different music on its two floors, and often boasts good live acts. The entrance fee seems to be fairly random, but everything else about this cool nightclub is pretty consistent, right down to the Ex-pat Indian community taking over the lower floor on weekends. Close to the airport, and within a short taxi ride of many other pubs and clubs, The Mix is located at the distinctive Grand Hyatt Hotel.

Kasbah @ The One and Only Royal Mirage * * *

Undeniably a swanky place to spend an evening, Kasbah is popular with locals and tourists, although its location by the beach at the One& Only Royal Mirage Hotel means that it is a little off the beaten track compared to the other clubs and bars in Dubai. Kasbah plays mainly Arab music, and if you're eating out at a beach hotel first, then it is a great place to go. The drinks are amongst the most expensive in Dubai.

Tangerine @ The Fairmont Hotel * * *

Tangerine's popularity is mainly with businessmen and east European women of questionable repute. It does boast one of the best DJs in Dubai though, and has a great dance music night every Thursday. The rest of the week, you'll be dancing to laid-back Arabic tunes. Tangerine can be found at the unmistakeable Fairmont hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road.

The Lodge * *

Despite being one of the worst clubs in Dubai, the lodge still manages to be really popular because it offers plenty of choice and good prices. It is close to Wafi City, and the Maktoum Bridge. Beware of the lodge during the summer, as being mostly outdoors, it does tend to get a bit sweaty.
